Housing

Housing is a big part of a ferrets life, you must keep them in the correct sort and keep it clean.

It could be quite hard to find someone to make a ferrets house, (it is easier to just buy one, but I have found that ferrets are a lot happier with a hand-made home.) I recommend going to a carpenter or a ferret specialist.

Ferrets need a wooden house preferably supported above the ground, with a closed off compartment for them to sleep in, the covering on the front of the main living area should be wire but you can use some other safe materials instead. You can have in-built surfaces for them to climb over and sleep on in the summer, or you can put in some play toys e.g. tubes, balls, logs e.t.c.

Just the plain wooden flooring is fine but I advise you to put down some shavings to protect it from wearing away. Also you will need to place more than average shavings in one corner of the main living area (this is the place that they will use as a toilet). In their bedroom you can put an array of things, shavings, shredded paper, old pillows or sheets, sheep skin, anything soft that will not get stuck in their throats (if they decide they are hungry).

Ferrets should live outside all through the year, They can get fresh air and outdoor smells and they shall be happier outside.
